New York Fashion Week: Michael Kors Fall 2010

The Scene: Unusually calm for a Kors show. There were still a ton of people, but several open seats for the taking.

Celebs: Donald and Melania Trump, Michael Douglas, Russell Simmons, and my personal favorite, Simon Doonan. He sat directly across from me (with a few rows between us) wearing brown sneakers, a floral button-down, and a puffy coat. Yesss.

The Collection: There's a reason Michael Kors is one of the hottest shows of Fashion Week. His collections are always abundant, fluid, and exciting. This time around, the feel was one of an Arctic safari. The clothes were in a rich tan, smooth beige, and light grey palette, with most of the models sporting lavish fur used in unusual ways. There was a fur stole-thing with sleeves and a tail, a bushy pencil skirt, and once again (as we saw in Tahari), fur bags. Both male and female models donned knit leg warmers and slouchy boots. Even the evening gowns were paired with rustic shoes. Particularly noticeable were the long knit skirts. These seemed to simply float down the runway. He also incorporated knits with a metallic sheen, and some that were incredibly sheer and sexy, which is quite a feat for a sweater.

Trend Spotting: Leg warmers, long skirts, fur bags, and double strap belts.

Overall Impression
: Kors proved that bundling up can be sexy, and fur is the new puffy coat. Sorry Simon.
