New York Fashion Week: Matthew Ames Fall 2010

The Scene:
Bare. And cold.

Overheard In The Crowd:
Nothing. Not a huge turnout. Poor Matthew.

The Collection:
I happened to love the collection - extremely minimalist and borderline androgynous - no patterns, blaring colors, or crazy folds (except for some MC Hammer balloon harems you could store five small children in) . All models wore flats, with clean hair and makeup, and zero accessories. Standouts were his leather shorts, a black leather pantsuit, and those pants, which were actually pretty fantastic. The architectural craftmanship was evident, particularly in the short-sleeved top and skirt combos. And as far as I'm concerned, simplicity always speaks volumes.

Trend Spotting: flat loafers, stiff leather, soft solids.

Overall Impression:
I would buy most of these pieces. But wear them with heels.
