The scene: Held at The Chelsea Art Museum away from the tents, when I ascended to the third floor staging area to cover backstage at Maladrino, I walked off the elevator to the usual backstage insanity. Models were not only racing to do hair and makeup but the Look Book was being shot in an anteroom off the hair and makeup area.
Overheard Backstage: "This model even sits tall! Do we have a hydraulic lift for me? I can't reach above her shoulder!"
The Look: MAC Cosmetics worked with legendary makeup artist Tom Pecheux to create the look for Malandrino, which was an Asian-inspired look to go along with her collection. The look was a naked upper eye, lined and accented under eye with a highlighted, contoured cheekbone and a gorgeous matte lip. They uused MAC Smoulder Pencil on the eye, Porcelain Powder to highlight and give the appearance of sculpted cheekbones and Club eyeshadow (a tarnished grey bronze). The lip color was also a sheer greyish-bronze and is as-of-yet unnamed but will be available as part of the fall collection. Phyto Hair Care worked with hair legend Odile Gilbert to construct the hair look, which went along with the Asian-inspired eye. The hair was smoothed into a high ponytail and secured with a clear elastic, then hand-sculpted into a tree. It was architectural and amazing. Odile and her team used Phyto Pro Intense Volume Mousse and Ultra Gloss Wax, available at a fine salon or Sephora near you.
I admit I had another fan girl moment with Odile Gilbert and had my picture taken with her. She and Tom Pecheux are absolutely lovely and amazing.
