New York Fashion Week: Get the Stila Beauty Look from Rebecca Minkoff

We're all completely obsessed with Rebecca Minkoff around here and we're equally as obsessed with Stila Cosmetics. I had an opportunity to interview Sarah Lucero, the head makeup artist in charge of creating the look for Rebecca Minkoff's Fall/Winter 2010 collection:

FSB: Tell us about the creative process to create this beauty look for Rebecca Minkoff. How did you create the look?
Sarah Lucero for Stila: The process starts with a meeting to see the collection and get the designer's inspiration behind the clothes. I am a huge fan of Rebecca's and she's a good friend of mine, so I felt really comfortable creating a look for her. I pulled beauty inspiration from Brigitte Bardot, the 60's and French films.

FSB: Who is the Rebecca Minkoff woman from this perspective for F/W 2010?
SL: Rebecca's woman is has a stylish, very hip, effortless, and has a confident attitude. This is the girl that steps out to face the day and looks beautiful and chic all day without having to try too hard. I feel every woman can wear this collection. It's hands down my favorite collection by far!

FSB: Can you tell us the steps to create the look you created?

SL: Start with hydrated skin by using a hydrating primer from Stila. Apply a light layer of illuminating liquid foundation to create flawless glowing skin. The cheeks are flushed with a sheer cherry or raspberry tint. We used Stila Cherry Crush and Convertible Color to achieve the "flush of youth" mixed with Darphin Lip Balm to create the perfect balance of sheen. The eyes were the main focus: it was all about a brown French cat eye- very hip and sultry. Lashes on top and lots of black mascara from Stila. I also brightened the eyes with a light layer of Stila Matte Eye Shadow in Dune on the lids and Stila Kajal Eye Pencil in Topaz on the waterline of the eyes. Brows are brushed up with a gel and not super groomed so they look easy and effortless.

FSB: How hard or easy will it be for women at home to create this look?
This look is easy to recreate and wear. All you need is a Stila Brown Smudge Pot and Thin Liner Brush #28. Trace your top lash line and lift up to create the cat eye look, then add a great Cherry Crush Cheek and Lip Stain. Gel based products work well because they make you look healthy and glowing, plus you can easily blend or add more color if needed. Stila products are ideal for this look because everything is multi-use and effortless. My favorite line to use for sure!

FSB: Anything else fabulous coming from Stila you want to tell us about?
SL: Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner pencils...amazing shades and they last all day. I have been so excited about Stila's new One Step Makeup. It’s the best formula because it looks great on everyone and works to enhance naturally beautiful skin. I've been using it at all the shows!

FSB: How about you? How many shows are you doing this season? What are you most excited about this fashion week?
SL: I'm leading three shows for Fall 2010 this week: Rebecca Minkoff, BCBGMAXAZRIA and Betsey Johnson. I love Fashion Week- seeing the clothes in advance, meeting and mingling with other makeup artists/hair stylists backstage! It’s always non-stop and busy, I feel so grateful to be here and represent a great line like Stila!
