Stylish Living: New York City Picks from Purple Lab NYC's Karen Robinovitz

Karen Robinovitz inside of one of NYC's most enviable locations, her West Village closet.

Last time we got the hottest picks from Alice + Olivia's Stacey Bendet. I figured it was time to ask another girl about town for her favorite hotspots in NYC. I give you where to go, what to see and what to do from Purple Lab NYC's Creatrix, the lovely and amazing Karen Robinovitz. Hey, Karen, where do you:

(l-r) Virayoga, Clay Fitness and Spa

Do yoga/workout/exercise - Virayoga for Anusara yoga and Clay is my gym, though I need to get to Tracy Anderson's studio!

Dell'Anima

Eat - Nobu, Dell'Anima, Little Owl for amazing brunch, Aquagrill for oysters, Murray's for a cheese fest.

Lobby of NYC's Standard Hotel

Have a cocktail - I don't really drink so I never go out for cocktails (shhhhh, I'm secretly no fun.) If I had to pick, it would definitely be The Standard Hotel.

Hang out with your girlfriends - Home! I love having friends over and entertaining.

Kirna Zabete

Shop - Kirna Zabete, Curve, Resurrection Vintage, Jeffrey, Alexander McQueen, Barneys New York, Moss for home design.

Relax and unwind - Vital Ki Energy of Jungshim to get the chakras lined up and maintain balance. There's a great healing treatment for just $60 and afterward you'll feel like a million. 39 W. 14th St. The best place for a quick energy tune up.

Devachan Salon and Spa

Have a day of beauty - A facial with Nina at Paul Labrecque (the Upper East Side location). No one cleans skin like her. She has changed my life. And then hop down to Soho for curl love at Devachan, the only place I will let touch my hair! They have a beautiful spa as well. I have an amazing massage therapist named Eli. Having him over for late night deep tissue action would just make the day complete.

The sculpture garden at the Museum of Modern Art

Have a little peace and quiet - The garden of the MOMA. Nothing like sitting outside, next to a Richard Serra and journaling. There are also hidden nooks in my neighborhood (the West Village) with little gardens and benches where it's so nice to have a quiet lunch and read.

Party until dawn - I wouldn't know personally, but right now it's all about Boom Boom Room, top floor of the Standard Hotel.
A scenic view of New Paltz

Spend time with your husband - Gallery hopping in Chelsea (we are super passionate about contemporary art and used to collect pre-Purple Lab - we can't wait to be able to collect again!) and getting on his motorcycle to jet to the DIA Center upstate. Speaking of upstate, we love weekends hiking in New Paltz.

Head out this weekend and check out some of Karen's picks for chic living and keep it here to FSB for more fabulous fashion, style and beauty news!

Editor’s Thoughts: Ten Items I’m Throwing Out During Spring Cleaning (They Might Surprise You)

It’s that time of year where we comb old t-shirts, excess mail, that pair of jeans we keep swearing we’re getting into THIS summer – it’s all got to go. I’m working on my own spring cleaning list and I’m ditching some things you might not expect:

Clothes That Don’t Fit: Let’s be clear about how hard this will be for me because, hey, the smaller stuff? Gone. However, I tend to hang onto larger clothes, things that used to fit when I was a larger size. I’ve seen photographs of me in my adult fashion versions of the security blanket and I look frumpy and sad. I’ve shed the weight, why not the clothes? Gently used clothing will be donated, anything that looks like a costume from Les Miserables needs to go in the trash.

Old Beauty Items: I preach this, I practice it ,and I’m getting in your face about it. You cannot hang onto makeup past its expiration date. It’s not only unflattering, it’s unhealthy. Mascara wands and applicators can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Hey, this also goes for old manicure and pedicure tools, worn-down pumice stones, back brushes and bath items that have that weird rust look to them, shower caps that smell, etc. Why would you use a dirty loofah to clean yourself? Exactly. Out it goes.

Shoes That Can’t Be Repaired or Will Never Return to Style Again: I recently rediscovered a pair of jelly shoes that had a wooden sole. I can’t tell you exactly how intoxicated I was when I bought them (because, let’s face it, that’s the only valid excuse) but they have to GO. I’ve also been holding onto a pair of shoes that looks like I wore them hiking through Middle Earth. If they’re beyond repair or will never return to style (or were never in style – BE HONEST with yourself), buh-bye.

Food and Beverages That Aren’t Good for Me: Out of nothing but a lack of time, I have fallen into the pre-packaged food rut. This has led to an unending battle with the spare tire around my waist and it’s starting to piss me off. If it comes in a box and has an expiration date of six months from now to, oh, the Apocalypse, it has to be donated or go out. I’m determined to eat and feel better about myself and I can’t do that shoveling crap into my mouth.

Bad Relationships: I’ve taken my share of hard knocks recently in the relationship department from both a friendship and romantic perspective. Here’s the truth: people are in your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Hanging onto to relationships that aren’t good for you is counterproductive to your life and adds incredible amounts of unhappiness. Plus, wrinkles suck. Be kind, but let go.

Putting My Health On the Back Burner: I recently discovered that I have a heart condition because I sensed some warning signs that I learned from the American Heart Association. The information basically saved my life and I can now live with, and manage, said condition. My doctors told me if left undetected I would have had either a heart attack or a stroke within a year or two years. Nobody likes a dead blogger and your health is nothing to screw around with. Go to your doctor, get checked, get tested, know your stats and take care of your body. It’s the only one you have and once it’s broken, it’s really hard to fix.

Regrets: Learning from our mistakes is what makes us human, but carrying guilt around for things you’ve done (or for things people perceive you’ve done and they try to make you suffer for it) is negative energy that is highly destructive. Throw that out, then forgive yourself or whoever it is and move on. While you’re at it, throw Shame, Angst, Fury, Greed, Coveting and Rage out with it.

Fear of Success: Think of any time in your life where you’ve had some success and “something happened” to snatch it away from you. Were you really a victim or were you so intimidated by your own success that you did something to sabotage it? The mind is a powerful thing. If you don’t believe you deserve to be happy, you will create unhappiness. Throw that fear out and believe you truly deserve the abundance coming into your life. I promise you right now that you’ll always get what you THINK you deserve.

The Inability to Say “No”: Gets me in trouble every time. I love to be of service to people and, honestly, I’m a people pleaser. This means that I over-commit or wind up regretting the Hell out of it later. I’m working to correct the situations this has gotten me into in the past but moving forward, look for the word “No” to come up way more often than it ever has.

Being Anyone Other Than Who I Am: Look, I’m quirky. I like to stay out late, I love stupid jokes and sometimes I laugh too loud. I eat applesauce with mashed potatoes, I think the ‘h’ in the word ‘vehicle’ should be silent, and I really hate when people bump into me without making eye contact (the laws of physics don’t just magically disappear because you want to be an obstinate asshole on the sidewalk today). This is who I am. These are just a few of the things that I stand for. If this isn’t for you, I suggest you move on. Everyone deserves to be exactly who they are. Love me or hate me, I demand you respect that about me and I think you have the right to do so for yourself.

What are you getting rid of this season? Leave your comments below or feel free to email me. Would love to hear your thoughts on this piece and what changes you’re making in your own lives.

Obsession of the Day: Core Fusion at Exhale Spa

Ok, so let's be honest here: I am ready to wear a two-piece bathing suit again. Can I get a witness and an "Amen" from the choir?

Look, I'm like all of you out there struggling to find time to work out, keep your waist tight, and make sure that things stay fit and trim. I made myself a promise that I wouldn't spend another summer hiding under layers, feeling badly about myself. Which is why I started doing Core Fusion at exhale pretty regularly. It gets results and it gets results FAST.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I used to work for the spa a long time ago, so I'm beyond familiar with the efficacy of this exercise class. Co-creators Fred De Vito and Elisabeth Halfpapp have created a class that merges yoga, gyrotonics, ballet, isometrics and active isolated stretching into a workout that gets you long, lean and strong in a way that is unparalled in any other workout I've ever done. The movements are small but powerful, breaking muscle down in a way so that when it reshapes it gives you a body you can't begin to imagine. This is where those Hollywood bodies come from, ladies and gentlemen, and I'm betting it can get me back into a two-piece bathing suit come July 4th weekend.

exhale has multiple locations across the country in Northern and Southern California, Boston, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Miami so head to their website and check out a class (then stay for a mind-blowing spa therapy - Body Enlightening is not to be believed). If you're not near a location but want to give it a try, pick up one of their DVDs or tune into FitTv to catch Fred and Elisabeth for a thirty-minute workout.

Long, lean and hot: that's my whole mantra for summer because mama needs to go on a date or two. All blogging and no play makes me a lumpy, frumpy, not-so-fabulous girl....and I don't plan on being anything BUT fabulous due to these intense, results-producing workouts.

Core Fusion Classes ($30 per class or inquire about class series and memberships), available at exhale spas nationwide.

Fitness Directory: Get Blissed Out and Toned at YogaWorks

You know that a few of us bloggers are on this mission to get into fantastic shape. Could it be all the photos floating around of us on the Internet? Maybe. I'd like to think that since we're usually out and about covering events pretty much every night and we all work insane schedules, we're just putting the focus back where it belongs, which is taking care of ourselves. All of us need to insist on personal time where we take extra special care of our bodies since we demand so much from them on a daily basis.

My friend Dina from eye4style got a few of us together to try a yoga class at the absolutely beauty YogaWorks in Soho. I'm a huge fan so I jumped at the chance and I have to tell you, I was thoroughly impressed. The studio is a gorgeous urban retreat with tons of light, zen rock embellishment and beautiful natural touches. It's incredibly clean (a big one for me) and filled with tons of different classes for anyone at any level. As a long-time yoga enthusiast, I'll vouch for the quality of my instructor. Since we had a mixed class, she taught a great Open class where the poses were challenging-but-doable for beginners and those of us who had a more advanced practice sincerely got a good workout. They also have a BarWorks class I'm dying to try if you want to mix it up a little.

Bright, beautiful and a peaceful urban retreat where your practice can flourish. If you're into yoga, or would like to try something new for your fitness routine, head to YogaWorks in Soho or any of their locations in New York or around the country (Los Angeles, Northern California and Orange County) to get long, lean and balanced for spring. Namaste.

Magazine Love: Christina Hendricks on the Cover of New York Magazine

You know, I was trying to take the weekend down, but when I started going through the 20 lbs of mail that I have in my living room, I had a moment of pause when I saw this cover of New York Magazine with Mad Men's Christina Hendricks on the cover. I mean, can we just take a moment here? Wow. This is GORGEOUS.

I have struggled with my weight for years now and being around people who are fasting and starving and always on some kind of diet brings out the worst in me. I fight it all I can but sometimes the pressure to be a certain weight overtakes me (as it does a lot of people) and it can lead to a feeling of such intense scrutiny. I lost a good amount of weight before Fashion Week but that whole quest to drop a dress size? Didn't make it. Not because I didn't try, but because the goal wasn't a realistic one...and it was incredibly vain.

When I saw the cover of this magazine, it actually made me stop and think. Here is this breathtaking woman, someone with whom I can identify as a body type, on the cover of a major magazine (and the cover of the Spring fashion issue, no less.) This isn't about being plus size or rail thin. This is about celebrating beauty and style. Beauty? We all have it. Style? We all possess it and it's really all about celebrating who we are with an almost reckless abandon.

I feel that it's important to highlight all types of fashion, style and beauty on this site, and this magazine cover has inspired me to take a vow here and now: I vow to celebrate my body the way it is right this minute and to stop punishing myself. Because right this minute, I have a living, breathing body in which to celebrate my life. That, my friends, is beautiful.

Bravo, New York Magazine. Bravo.

Obsession of the Day: Kiehl's Mineral Muscle Soak Foaming-Relaxing Bath

After completing four hours of spinning this weekend and keeping a pretty vigorous exercise regimen lately, I admit it: I hurt. I have aches and pains in places that continue to surprise me. Still, I trudge on because honestly, all this exercise makes me feel amazing, even if my poor tired muscles might not always agree.

My recent discovery? Kiehl's makes this amazing Mineral Muscle Soak Foaming-Relaxing Bath  ($19) that delivers like Domino's when it comes to muscle aches and pains. Containing Sodium PCA, Aloe Vera and Calendula, it's a bubble bath that helps draw pain out of the muscles, soothes and hydrates your skin and helps you rest more comfortably and the aroma is to DIE for. It's a must for athletes, busy moms and those of us attempting to avoid the shame of turning our backs on your resolutions to get buff and hot this year.

Nab some for your bath and I guarantee you'll have something to look forward to after that next workout.

The Drop-A-Dress-Size Fitness Diaries: Core Fusion, Here We Come

Many of you are following along as my fellow online fashion and beauty writers do our best to adhere to our New Year's Resolution to get fit and smoking hot this year. I, being the overachiever in the group, decided to up the ante and try to lose a dress size before New York Fashion starts on 2/11/10. Well, you've seen us hit Physique 57 so it only makes sense that we try the ultimate total body class, Core Fusion.

Created by Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp, the Mind Body Programming team behind the now legendary Exhale Spa, this is the class you want to take to get a Hollywood body in a safe way. Think long, lean muscles with a supple body and increased core strength and flexibility. The class is a mixture of ballet barre work, yoga, gyrotonics and active isolated stretching that uses low weight and high reps to break muscle down in a certain way so it reshapes itself as a longer, leaner fat-burning machine. Think Kim Cattrall and Julia Roberts bodies as examples.

At an invitation from Fred DeVito himself, Felicia Sullivan, Dina Fierro from eye4style, Anne Fritz from The Jet Set Girls and a few of our PR friends headed to the Soho studio in Manhattan to get our workout on. Co-creator Elisabeth was also on hand to correct form and remind me that if it felt easy at certain instances, I wasn't doing it correctly. One hour later, we emerged from the class way tougher than we were when we walked in. The video above is a recap of our experience mere minutes after the class was over. See how sweaty we are? We worked it, folks, no doubt about it. This class is tough but it's AMAZING.

Look, the bottom line is this: losing weight and getting (and staying) in shape is not easy. There's no magic bullet and no way around the hard work. If you want a workout that will give you an amazing body, then I would definitely encourage you to head to Exhale's website and check out a class at a location near you. Exhale's mind body programming and spa therapies are meant to focus on the whole body. Yoga, massage, nutrition - it's all there and the best in the industry are there to help you.

As for me and my money? I'm going back again on Saturday for yoga with my beloved instructor, Exhale's Sebastian White, and I'm definitely heading back for Core Fusion again on a regular basis. In the spirit of full disclosure I used to work for Exhale so I know how good this class is. It gave me the best body of my entire life and last night's class reminded me why. Phone a counselor because I'm officially re-addicted to this amazing class.

Hi, my name is Kristin and I'm a Core Fusion addict. (Hi, Kristin!)

Countdown to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: The Equinox Dress Size Challenge

They say that Christmas only comes once a year but for me it actually arrives three times. Obviously, it comes on December 25th but twice a year the tents come out and I start making my list and checking it twice. Those times are February and September and if you haven't guessed it already, it's New York Fashion Week.

While I'm coordinating show invitations, a contributing writing staff (all of whom you will meet soon) and the myriad of details that come with attending The Big Show, I made a decision right before the holidays that I wanted to add one more badge of honor to receiving my press pass (thanks, IMG!): I have to drop one dress size before Fashion Week.

I've already had people make comments regarding this personal challenge about the fashion industry and trying to get "model skinny" and I feel I should clarify that this is no different than someone wanting to look good for a wedding, a high school reunion or any other big event. Mine just happens to be Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. I'm doing it for myself. I'm basically down an Olsen twin from my maximum weight of 241 lbs and, honestly, it's just time to take off the rest of it. I have no illusions that I'll lose all the remaining weight in the next three weeks but having started a couple of weeks ago, I think one dress size is completely doable.

How am I doing it? Diet and exercise. There are no magic bullets and I knew I needed some help, which is why I went to the good people of Equinox Fitness and signed up for a membership.

You want to know why I shell out money for a premium fitness facility? In my opinion, I want to make sure that every time I work out, I'm going to look forward to it. When I walk into my gym, I'm automatically the Happiest Member on Earth. Amazing classes, instructors who are deeply focused on results as well as safety and form, state-of-the-art machines (including a pool that has a resistance lane that simulates open current water for triathlon training), and that's just the beginning. The Spa, the amazing instructors (Kristin McGee and Mardi Sykes teach at my facility - amazing) and personal trainers that are just as cute as they are effective (Taraji is the guy who will eventually show up in photos making me feel the burn).

So, I'll be documenting my experiences to drop this dress size by posting a diet and exercise diary daily and hopefully if you need a little bit of inspiration to get cute for an event you'll find it humorous and get some good ideas from it. Because this time when I walk into the Tents, I want to look as fierce as I feel. I want to have a total package look that says, "I'm the Editor of this fabulous site, people. Recognize."

Obsession of the Day: Physhion Vixen Bag

You're thinking, a gym bag, Kristin? Yes, yes I am because I feel that style should be a way of life, not something you bring out on occasion. For the record, when you can combine form and function the way that Lisa Tave and her Physhion bags have, I'm all for it.

The name "Physhion" is the combination of "physical" and "fashion." And boy, is it ever.

Now, in the spirit of full disclosure, I already own this bag. I've had it since March of last year and anyone who knows me has seen it because it's the bag that I basically carry ALL THE TIME. The bag is Italian leather with a gorgeous finish and is effortlessly chic (it's been mistaken for exorbitantly priced designer bags all the time when I carry it.) Looking at it, you're thinking, what a stylish handbag, but what you don't know is that it's the James Bond of totes. Open it up and it's got enough compartments and components to carry just about anything you need to carry but it remains sleek no matter how much stuff you cram into it. For urbanites like me who use it as a gym bag, travel tote and weekend bag, it's the only way to go. Moms, this is the diaper bag for the fashionista mommy.

Each bag is lined in 100% waterproof fabric and comes with a wet/dry bag, a toiletry bag, shoe pockets, inside pockets for your electronics, a strap to hold your keys AND another inside zip pocket. There's also a signature logo tag that can hold a gym pass (or other small cards if you're out shopping). I can get ready from the gym and hit the street in style and when I open it, everything is organized and visible, not like the proverbial can of snakes situation that used to happen with my old bags.

As I step into my month-long challenge to lose a dress size before New York Fashion Week, you'd better believe you'll see me carrying this bag everywhere because it's sleek, chic and completely useful. How many athletic totes can say THAT?

Physhion Vixen Bag, $300 ($375 at Equinox). Available at Equinox locations and via physhion.com.

Eco-Chic Fashion: Alo Athletic Apparel

I have to say, I've got enough guilt that I'm trying to work off from holiday indulgences without worrying about my workout gear adding to the Earth's climate change issues. Luckily, I don't have to worry about that and I'm passing my little solution onto you: meet Alo Sportswear.

When I say eco-chic fashion, this is a company that truly puts the planet first. All the exceedingly stylish workout gear is made from planet friendly materials like bamboo, which is one of our planet's most sustainable materials as well as a material that naturally wicks moisture away from the body and has antimicrobial, hypoallergenic and breathable properties without the addition of chemicals or additives. Other materials used are modal and organic cotton. Again, all earth-friendly yoga and Pilates gear that delivers on looks and planet-lovin' style. Can't beat it.

The company also puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to its own carbon footprint. From  a headquarters that uses solar power to a hybrid company car and offering organic food and beverage options to their employees, Alo is a company that truly walks the walk and has stylish goods to show for it.

The outfit shown is my new favorite way to get into Downward-Facing Dog. It's a Seamless Stripe Tank ($48) combines with these sleek and fabulous Blocked Waist Pant ($58). They have many styles available, include men's fashion so check them out.

A healthy body and a healthy planet? Sounds like a win-win to me.

New Year, New You: My Own Personal Fashion, Style and Beauty Resolutions

Over the holidays, I sent out the fabulous resolutions that my fellow fashion and beauty bloggers have made but I thought I would take it a little further and give you a sneak peek into what I'm challenging myself with this year. I wouldn't share this with just ANYBODY but, you know, what's a little shared love between true fashion, style and beauty addicts?

Get into a bikini by my birthday - Anyone who knows me knows about my now epic battle with the bulge. I'm now proudly down 62 lbs from my heaviest weight and I'm determined to take the remaining amount off by my birthday on June 9th. This means working out, eating right and picking out the hottest bathing suit I can find because I've promised to be photographed in said swimsuit. Oh yes, folks, nothing like the promise of flash photography against your semi-clothed body to keep you honest.

Only possess things I love and cherish - This doesn't mean that I don't love my clothes and shoes but I have been prone to impulse shopping in the past and after unloading a huge amount of apparel and shoes after I moved recently, I can say that I don't miss anything that I gave to charity. If you closet fills you with dread when you open it, it can permeate your soul. I got rid of anything that didn't fit or that I didn't love. It makes getting dressed a lot easier and I look forward to restocking it with things that fit who I am today rather than some image of who I used to be.

Curate my own personal Glam Squad - Every person in the world needs a Glam Squad and I don't care who you are. Every woman needs the following individuals on speed dial in your PDA/phone/Rolodex/home:
- Hair gurus that can handle all of your needs, from color to cut to processing to a glass of wine and a good bitching session when you've had THAT kind of day
- A nail technician that gives bullet-proof manicures and pedicures
- A brow genius that can create the perfect arch
- An aesthetician that gives facials where people at your reunion will ask if you've had work done and a waxer that doesn't make you cry
- A masseuse that can reverse all of the drama of 2009 (and that is a tall order, people)
- A trainer, yogi and/or fitness instructor that can help you get a body that you can respect and love even more than the one you have now
I'll be curating my glam squad throughout the year and posting the results on FSB.

Find the perfect pair of jeans - This changes for me on an almost annual basis but I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair this year.

Treat myself like a princess - That means I can take as many bubble baths, get as many spa treatments, take as many naps, go on as many vacations and have as much fun as I want this year without feeling guilty. I've learned it the hard way but it's true: if I'm not happy and cared for, everything else suffers. The sacrifices are worth it but let's all learn from Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree: eventually you will wind up just a stump. I'm trying a different approach this year by making a commitment to loving myself to death this year.

Pay attention to the way I look - This might sound hilarious from a fashion and beauty writer but I realized that sometimes I get dressed to get it over with, whatever it is. This means that I leave the house looking waaaay less than spectacular and that is inevitably the day when I meet someone really amazing (Isaac Mizrahi, for example) or some smoking hot guy is probably looking at me saying, "Huh. She could be cute with some makeup." No more. I'm not saying appearance is everything but making skincare, a little mascara and my hair (which is just an epic battle of its own) a priority means that if I do it more often, it won't be such an uphill battle when I have to do it at all. Make sense?

Get back in the dating scene - Yes, I'm back out there again and the hair, makeup and fashion decisions with stepping back out there go with it. I'll chronicle the results in photos and word right here.

So, these are my resolutions and goals for this year. What did you decide upon? Let me know in the comments section.

NYFW: Getting Down to Fashion Weight

If you're going out for cocktails or dinner anywhere in Manhattan at a spot frequented by fashion and beauty media, socialites, buyers or anyone associated with Fashion Week, you'll hear almost all of us talking about the fact that we're on diets. Specifically, the "Fashion Week Diet". Is it a regular program? No. Is there a book with a diet and exercise regimen. Not really.

The "diet" is very simple, really: do whatever it takes to look your absolute best for the tents, the parties and the amazing clothing you will wear. Think of it as the prom, a first date and swimsuit season all rolled into one.

As someone who is now down 72 lbs (and it was no easy feat, let me tell you), I am determined to do this the right way, which is with diet and exercise. Since I have absolutely no time for the gym, I rent workout DVDs from Netflix and do one a day (sometimes two if I have the time). I'm also on The Fresh Diet (the way Sheri Shepard lost all that weight on The View), which is an amazing diet delivery service that drops three meals and two snacks on my doorstep every morning so I don't have to think about what I'm eating. The diet is teaching me all sorts of things about eating, from proper portion size to the fact that really healthy food can taste AMAZING! The dishes are really delicious: today's menu is as follows:

Breakfast: Spinich & Feta Cheese Egg Bake with Fresh Papaya
Snack: Charred Lamb Loin on Whole Wheat Crostini with Oven Roasted Tomato
Lunch: Tofu Caesar Salad with Romaine Lettuce, Sun-Dried Tomato, European Cucumber and Caesar Dressing
Dinner: Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with Lemon Pepper and Garlic Sauce with Roasted Sweet Potato and Green Beans with Toasted Almonds
Dessert: Cherry Vanilla Cheese Cake

The best thing about The Fresh Diet (other than home delivery and absolutely delicious food)? When you sign up for the service, you log into an account and give your food preferences (I don't like condiments like mayo and ketchup, so those aren't in the foods delivered). It's like having a private chef that controls your calorie intake and makes smart food decisions when you just don't have the time or, like me, don't know how to eat properly. They currently deliver in South Florida, Chicago, NY Tri-State area, Southern California, Boston and Philadelphia so if you're in any of these areas and you want to lose weight in a healthy manner while eating delicious food, contact them today.

So, as I race to the finish to get into the gorgeous vintage dress and some pretty fabulous clothes for Fashion Week, my diet and exercise plan will consist of more than a deep breath at meals and a cigarette for dessert. I'm already down 7 lbs so it's definitely working!

See you at the tents, slimmer and fashion-ready!

60 Second Fitness Tip: The Netflix Gym

As some of us are too busy to live, we always complain there's no time to go to the gym. Between busy schedules, long hours, kids, boyfriends and other commitments, the very thought of packing a gym bag, heading to a gym or yoga studio to work out and then getting back again is exhausting. So, we blow it off and our backsides continue to take on extra lbs.

I've recently discovered a cure for all of these excuses and a few more: Netflix. Yes, you read that correctly. I just filled my queue with a TON of workout DVDs and I do them during my "lunch hour" or crack of dawn early in my apartment. This alleviates almost all of my issues: I can't get bored because a brand new workout shows up in my mailbox every other day (or some have the "Watch Instantly" option where you can view them on a computer or hook it up to your TV), I can shower and get ready in the privacy of my own home and I can try just about any workout I want. If you have a Netflix account, I presume this means you carve out time to watch a movie. How about taking 45 minutes to do a workout video, then collapse on the floor and do crunches during a real movie?

If you don't have a Netflix account, it's really the smartest way to rent movies and if you use this fitness tip it's seriously a mere fraction of the cost of a gym membership. There are thousands of videos to choose from, so kick up your workout routine with my new favorite workout location: the Netflix gym!

The Breakover Diaries: Downward-Facing Dog for Your Post-Breakup Body

OK, so you need to pull yourself up and out of it. Whether it's a slight bit of inertia from a breakup, a complete and utter lack of motivation due to a bad week or a general lethargy that's been sapping you dry for weeks/months on end, lying on the couch in a pool of sweat clothing is not going to make the situation any better. It's time for some exercise.

Personally, my workout of choice is yoga. I've been an enthusiast for years and I love the long. lean muscle tone and fat-burning properties it gives me. Yoga for me is like wringing out a wet towel; every twist and turn of my body forces my body to relieve stress, rid itself of toxins and get stronger and leaner. The more I practice yoga, the stronger my body becomes and the leaner I get. I'm losing weight and shedding excess breakup drama in the process so I'll call this a win-win.

If you've never done yoga before, there is no better time like the present to get started. Please consult your doctor before starting this or any other workout program but once you're cleared to work out, I insist that you head to a gym or yoga studio before trying any DVDs at home to get the essentials down. Don't feel self-conscious about taking a class if you've never done it before and don't think that people will stare at your or make fun of you if you're new to the class. My favorite yoga instructor, Sebastian White, told me years ago that "everyone has to start somewhere" (and if you're in NYC, take his classes at Exhale - mind-blowing instructor) and it's totally true. So find a beginners class at your local Y, gym or yoga studio. You'll emerge from the class peaceful, centered and with a head empty and if you keep practicing you'll get longer, leaner and hotter, which is an essential part of any breakover: you always want to end a breakover in better shape than you started it.

One of the best things about yoga besides the amazing workout and the fantastic relaxation properties is that, in my opinion, it's the method of exercise with the cutest wardrobe. Once a month, I buy myself one new workout outfit because getting slimmer means new clothes (not like I need any incentive at ALL to shop). Right now, some of my favorites are from Victoria's Secret. Their VS Classic Yoga Pant ($29.50 and fits up to a size 18) is super comfortable in class but cute enough to run errands (or work in, for those of us who work from home during the day.) Also shown is one of my wardrobe staples, the Ultimate Tank in Stretch Solids (on sale for $10), which I wear almost every day all year round. This is a great workout outfit that will take you from mat to street in no time flat.

As far as a mat goes, I love this Eco Sticky Mat by Prana ($44), which is made without any heavy metals so you can reduce and the size of your backside simultaneously. Throw it in this gorgeous The Sak Pax Eco Yoga Bag ($69) and you'll be the hottest thing at the studio other than the instructor.

One of the hardest things about getting yourself together again after any disappointment is remembering to focus on yourself and your needs. What you need right now is to get your brain and body going in the right direction, so head to your nearest yoga studio or gym and go downward facing, dog. Who knows? You might rediscover your inner warrior all over again.

FSB On The Scene: Blueprint Cleanse Boot Camp

Sometimes you just need to give yourself a break. Whether it's working too much, recovering from a traumatizing situation or you're a working mom with too many things to do, hitting the "reset" button is exactly what you need in life. I got the opportunity to check out a full-body restart at Blueprint Cleanse Boot Camp yesterday and let me tell you: it was just what the doctor ordered.

We arrived via chartered bus to the gorgeous house you see in the photo, then started our day with morning yoga on the immaculate lawn.

This was followed by a great raw food cooking demonstration, which produced amazing food that tasted fabulous (I'll post recipes later). We then proceeded to relax by the pool while we waited for treatments like scalp treatments, nutritional counseling, massages and facials. We were sent home at the end of the day refreshed, relaxed and extremely healthy.

The founders, Zoe Sakoutis and Erica Huss, created this day to show us what the Blueprint Cleanse is all about, which is treating your mind and body with the utmost care and respect. I'm trying a three-day cleanse to abolish the appetizers and cocktails I've been subsisting on for the past few weeks. I feel amazing and I want to continue this feeling.

If you're in the mood to hit "Restart" on your body, you might consider doing this amazing cleanse, which is produced from all natural juices and ingredients. It's not meant as a weight-loss tactic (although you can drop some lbs from trying it), but more of a way to give your body a break from the stress and strain you put your organs through on a regular basis (Happy Hour is a great way to unwind from the week, not so great for your digestive system or your waistline.)

Like with any other dietary program change, you'll want to consult your doctor prior to trying, but this introduction to a healthier, self-aware lifestyle was an amazing wake-up call for me. I also was thrilled to spend a rejuvenating day with my friends. Clockwise from the bottom left, that's Aly Walansky (eBeautyDaily), Katie Ryan, me and Dina Fierro (eye4style) toasting with our cleanses (which are delicious, I gotta tell ya) by the pool at the estate.

Check out Blueprint Cleanse on the web to find out more about their amazing cleanses as well as tips and tricks to live a healthier lifestyle. For me, this day and the experience was the perfect reminder to treat myself with grace and respect, which is essence of all style.

Bikini Season Is Calling. Answer With Tracy Anderson Method.

Ah, Spring is springing and that can only mean one thing: bathing suit season is coming!!! The thought of showing enough skin to basically qualify someone to shake hands with your gynecologist is a daunting task for even the most hearty of gym enthusiasts. Where is a celebrity trainer when you need one? Ah, problem solved: Tracy Anderson Method to the rescue.

Tracy Anderson, for those who are as of yet unaware, is the celebrity trainer that sculpts and perfects the bodies of Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. A petite, pocket-sized little powerhouse, she sculpts and perfects long, lean muscle with a mixture of old school dance aerobics with strength and resistance training that builds up smaller muscles that in turn pull in larger muscle groups, resulting in a long, lean but strong physique (see: Paltrow, Gwyneth). If you live in the NYC area, Tracy is in the process of opening a location here in Spring 2009 and membership information can be gained via her site.

If you don’t live anywhere near New York or Los Angeles and you want to get Gwyneth or Madonna hot, bring the burn to your house with the Tracy Anderson Method DVD collection. I can personally vouch that in three weeks of the Mat Workout DVD ($29.99) and the Dance Cardio Workout DVD ($29.99) I saw measurable results and was able to get into a slinky cocktail dress for a romantic getaway. Proof enough for you?

And here you thought it was going to be impossible for a celebrity trainer to come to your house. Keep it tuned here to fashion.style.beauty. We’ll bring all the good stuff home to you!
