Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Backstage at Erin Fetherston with MAC
The Scene: MAC & Milk Studios is truly the perfect setting for a show. The space is well-lit, expansive, and somehow relaxing. Bloggers, photogs, makeup artists and models coexisted peacefully. Erin, looking like one of her show’s models, got her makeup done and gave interviews.
Overheard Backstage: One model looked a LOT like Erin. So much so, in fact, that the most frequently overheard question backstage was “Is that Erin?”
The Products: MAC Care Blends Essential Oils, MAC Mineralize All-Over Lotion, MAC Select Cover-up, MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder, MAC lipstick in Fearless, MAC lipstick in Cocochino, MAC Lip Conditioner
Get The Look: Lucia Pica crafted a unique, gorgeous look for the Fall 2010 show, inspired by the natural beauty of Nico from the Velvet Underground. She started by mixing a few drops of the Essential Oils with the Mineralize moisturizer, then massaging it into the face to “get the blood flowing.” She applied a bit of concealer as needed, then applied Fearless lipstick on the cheeks. This brilliant move is actually quite simple – Pica blotted the cheek with the lipstick, straight from the tube, then blended it up and out with her fingers. The result was a fabulous, natural flush, as a result of the “oils in the lipstick.” She then applied the same shade to the lips, dabbing it at the center and tapping and blending it onto the rest of the lips with her fingers. Then, Pica used another lipstick – for the eyes. She lightly rubbed Cocochino on the eyelids and again blended it with her fingers. She also curled the eyelashes, leaving them natural and mascara-less. To finish the look, she dabbed moisturizer over the blushed cheeks to give them shine, placed a bit of lip balm at the inner eye, and ran some pressed powder over the model’s T-zone. The look is incredibly simple; Pica wanted it to look as if it had “happened naturally.” Although it seems strange to use lipstick as blush and eyeshadow, it provides a “shiny texture” and a stain-like “wash of color” that will certainly turn heads.
