NYFW: Michael Kors Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

I cannot tell you how early I got up the morning of September 16th to make sure I had a space in line for the Michael Kors show. The beloved designer of American chic was showing at 10 am and the line of people to get in the door was staggering. Luckily, my 5-inch heels and I made it into line right as the sign was going up over the check-in desk. I was ready to see the show.

After making it in the door (but not without taking a couple of elbows to the chest on my way in...fashion makes some people slightly mental, evidently), I was treated to an amazing show. Muse Carmen Kass started the show in a gorgeous white leather zipper shift dress and the collection didn't slow down from there. Michael Kors did what he does best: impeccably tailored, wearable American designer clothing, but this year he gave a nod to the future with some space-age details. Swimsuits and dresses has sheer panels of Perspex cut into them, other more classic shapes featured large Lucite and silver statement necklaces and other accents.

Metallic brushstrokes, techno taffeta and other thoughtful aspects brought architectural, futuristic details to rather classic silhouettes in a color palette that showed great versatility, mixing in hues of ice blue and thistle with classic black and white. Kors' ability to deliver wearable clothes has taken on a whole new level with a mixture of classic, cleanly-cut fabrics with sculptural aspects that will make them center stage for the American woman moving into spring.

At the end of the show, Kors walked the full runway to a pounding soundtrack with the biggest smile on his face and I for one love it. This is someone who is having fun and madly in love with fashion...and it loves him right back. Bravo.
