The line stretched all the way around the main tent as fashion fans and celebs alike swarmed the fountain in eager anticipation for the ARISE African Fashion Collective show. With models like Chanel Iman and Tyson Beckford walking the runway, the crowd was excited to see the latest collections from this season's chosen group of African designers. In it's second season and sponsored by Arise Magazine and the ThisDay Group, the runway showcased looks by Jewel by Lisa, Tiffany Amber, Eric Raisina and David Tlale and did not disappoint. Vibrant color breathed welcome optimism into a rain-soaked New York crowd and sent the runway awash in stunning details and construction.
The first collection shown, Jewel by Lisa, displayed tastefully embellished clothes as per its name but it was the strong use of spheres that set the collection apart, giving us artfully constructed pieces paired with more tailored pieces.
Tiffany Amber sent flowing and elegant pieces down the runway in glamorous, optimistic hues of yellow, blue and green.
Eric Raisina’s collection showed bright hues and heavily textured pieces, sending vibrant pieces with movement and great construction down the runway.
Last but not least, the star of the show was the collection by South African David Tlale, who sent a sharply designed assortment of men’s and women’s looks down the runway (Beckford closed the show in one of his pieces) in warm hues ranging from ivory to champagne all the way to a gorgeous pewter.
The show's atmosphere had all the vibrancy of a highly-charged concert, with the crowd cheering for their favorites. All four designers showed beautifully designed pieces that further opened the door to the globalization of fashion, providing a view of style that was aesthetically pleasing and wearable for women around the world.
