Reality TV News: Iman to Co-Host Bravo's The Fashion Show and Calling Potential Designers!
We all know how much I loved Bravo's The Fashion Show (I went to the taping of the season finale - so happy). Well, it looks like the show has been renewed for a second season and Isaac's got a new co-host: IMAN! I KNOW!
Bravo broke the news on their blog last night, which included a statement from the legendary supermodel. She said:
“I am so excited to be joining the Bravo team and to be working again with Isaac Mizrahi, my close friend of many, many years. I am also looking forward to all of the behind-the-scenes excitement and drama that is generated through the creative process of these undiscovered fashion designers. This will certainly be a show any follower of fashion will want to see.”
I cannot WAIT to see what my all-time favorite model has to say to the potential designers. She walked for Halston back in the day, people. This is going to be FIIIIIIIIIIIIERCE.
By the way, do you think you have what it takes to become the next great fashion designer? If so, click this link and enter to compete on The Fashion Show. Just be sure to let me know if you get on the show. I'll be sure to highlight you!
Things are looking up for reality tv this coming season!

FSB On The Scene: The Finale Party For Project Runway and an Interview with Winner Seth Aaron!
Last night, Bluefly invited me and a select few individuals to attend a Project Runway finale party at the apartment (nay, two-floor mega-palace for us New Yorkers - you could land a plane in there) of the super-fabulous Laura Bennett (previous finalist of Project Runway/designer/now author/amazing mom).
If you're a Project Runway fan, this was a dream come true, as tons of former designers were present and available: Kevin, Jay, Malan, Epperson, Maya (the designer who left the show this season), even crowd favorite Anthony were all present to watch the finale show on a projection television with drinks and snacks. I even got a chance to meet one of my favorites, the fabulous and amazing Kara Janx.
And, I die, Kelly Cutrone and I wound up chatting about her book, life in general and all sorts of other things. Ladies and gentlemen, she could not have been more sweet. I now have a mad girl crush on Kelly. She's beyond fabulous.
But if you watched the show, you know that Seth Aaron Henderson won! People, this is the first time I've picked the winner from the very first show of the season and he was sitting right across from me with his entire family!
I jumped at the chance to interview the designer mere moments after he was announced the winner on national television. Here's what he had to say:
FSB: You won! As a huge fan of the show, I have to know: what was it like to get the end? Describe the gauntlet that is Project Runway.
Seth Aaron: Well, obviously, it was a blessing, number one. I didn't really consider it a huge labor. I mean, that's what I came to do. I'm pretty focused, I know who I am and I'm confident. I thought it was a lot of fun!
FSB: How would you describe your buyer? Who is the woman that wears your clothing?
Seth Aaron: Anyone who wants to f*^kng wants to tear it up. :) I mean, you have to remember that what you see on the show isn't necessarily real life. I design ready-to-wear. I have a line, but when you get on Project Runway, you almost have to just say to Hell with that. This is costume, something rich, something impressive. I mean, the only project I didn't bring it was the Heidi Klum challenge, where I tried to take it back a little and you saw how that worked out. It's about bringing up to a whole new level. I just went completely editorial all the time. When you go to Fashion Week, you don't show a collection. You show a show.
FSB: Nice! So what's next for you?
Seth Aaron: Manufacturer, Los Angeles...I'm already working on reps for Los Angeles and New York. I've already got one here that's going to put (the line) all over Manhattan. It's now about finding a manufacturer that can do it. After that, Tokyo. I'll continue with the editorial runway show. I really love that. I've also got someone from London Fashion Week contacting me, so I'd like to do that next.
FSB: Awesome! So, one last question: what's it feel like to win Project Runway?
Seth Aaron: What do you think?!?
FSB: I think it would be pretty freakin' awesome!
Seth Aaron: It's pretty freakin' awesome!
Thanks to Bluefly, Laura Bennett, Project Runway and Attention! for such a fabulous evening! Congratulations to Seth Aaron Hamilton!

Stylish Viewing: The Robert Verdi Show Starring Robert Verdi
I think it's pretty safe to assume that FSB and Robert Verdi have kind of a love-love relationship. I wouldn't say that we love him, adore him and want to carry his designer bags everywhere he goes....but that wouldn't be too far off.
People always ask me, what's it like to meet Robert Verdi? Well, wonder no more because the celebrity stylist and lifestyle guru has his own reality show premiering TONIGHT on LOGO.
The Robert Verdi Show Starring Robert Verdi (yes, that's really the name) is all about Robert and his attempts to build his empire. You'll get to go behind-the-scenes at Luxe Lab, meet the staff (all of whom I adore - Hi Ashley, Patrick, Deirdre and crew!) and watch as Robert works through his crazy ideas on how to rule the world. You're thinking, reality is really far-fetched. Knowing Robert, I'll vouch: this is pretty dead-on accurate minus the graphic images and cartoon imagery that comes up every once in a while (and after a couple of cocktails at Luxe Lab even those would appear completely reasonable.)
It's heartfelt, it's HILARIOUS and it's incredibly sweet (in certain instances). So set your DVRs to "stunning" and record, savor and WATCH Robert's new reality show, premiering tonight at 10 pm ET on LOGO. Check your local listings and watch, discuss and laugh until your butt falls off.

On the Scene: mark. and Lauren Conrad Talk m.powerment
Introducing another contributor to FSB, the lovely Tamara Lukens. Tamara attended the mark./Lauren Conrad event last week for us. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy from the event from her perspective:
I had the pleasure to attend the m.powerment by mark. event at The Crosby Hotel in New York City, where I spent the evening learning about the cause from Claudia Poccia, Global President for mark. and everyone’s favorite reality star/designer/author Lauren Conrad, mark. spokesperson and honorary co-chair for the m.powerment campaign.
The m.powerment campaign is a philanthropic effort that seeks to empower young women to break the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence. Did you know that women, ages 16-24, have the highest incidence of partner abuse? Through this campaign, mark. is committed to change this statistic by instilling confidence and courage as well as creating a network for young women to reach out to and discuss these issues. Since launching in 2008, the m.powerment by mark campaign has raised over $400K, with the money distributed to organizations around the country that support awareness, education and service to the problem of domestic partner abuse.
Upon arrival, we were ushered into a screening room and, with popcorn and champagne soda in hand, watched the campaign's new PSA. We also got a sneak peek at the brand new "Have a Heart" bracelet, which features Lauren's signature "faves" heart on one side, and the m.powerment by mark. insignia on the other. Lauren Conrad was on hand for the event as well and I was very excited to see her talk about this incredible movement.
Along with Claudia Poccia, mark. Global President, a mark top seller, and Kristen DiFiore, Peer Educator Leader from the Healthy Relationship Training Academy in New York City, Lauren talked about the campaign and the importance of reaching out to young women who may be caught in an abusive relationship, emphasizing it is not their fault and encouraging them to seek help right away. An inspiring and powerful message from the face of the campaign.
She gracefully answered a set of questions submitted by bloggers and fans, including inquiries about her beauty secrets and her favorite beauty products, which we were all dying to know! I discovered that Lauren shares my love for playing up the eyes, "Eyes are fun!" she remarked, and revealed that her perfect cat eye requires a lot of practice. Her go-to product for the signature look is On the Edge Hook Up Liquid Liner in Cleo (black) ($6). Her other favorite beauty products from the brand are the aforementioned eyeliner, as well as Hook Ups with her favorite combination being the Scanda-Lash mascara ($6) and m.powerment gold lipgloss ($6). Given her busy traveling schedule, Lauren relies on mark Light Bright Lighten & Depuff Gel ($8) to help her achieve a well-rested look. I can assure you, I'll be shopping for these products right away!
I’m very grateful to mark. and the m.powerment campaign for bringing forward the topic of domestic partner abuse among young women to the forefront. If you would like to participate and support this cause, head to shop.meetmark.com and click on the m.powerment link, where you will find an assortment of products, including the signature necklaces and bracelets. One hundred percent of the net proceeds of the sale of these products go directly to the cause. For more information, go to meetmark.com/mpowerment.

Style Points: Historic Fashion and Beauty Commercials for Super Bowl Sunday
It's Super Bowl Sunday and some of us will be watching the game like it's a religious experience (GEAUX SAINTS!). For others, it's a good opportunity to eat more than you should, drink more than is advisable and feign some level of interest until the commercials come on. Even though most of us have DVRs now and fast-forward through any advertisement possible, this is the one night a year where we look forward to watching Madison Avenue earn its paycheck. I'd like to mark the occasion by paying homage to some of the best classic fashion, beauty and style commercials of yore:
Who could forget the legendary Cindy Crawford commercial with the denim shorts that she was ABLE TO FIT INTO THE NEXT TIME?
And then, of course, we have the Victoria's Secret Commercial for What is Sexy from 2002.
For you perfume fans, how about the Obsession by Calvin Klein commercials with Kate Moss?
And then, of course, Madonna and Missy Elliot hocking wares from the Gap.
Speaking of the Gap, two of my favorite people ever in a Gap commercial: SJP and Lenny Kravitz. Le sigh, le jealousy...
I would be remiss not to list some seriously old school commercials for fashion and fragrance, especially as a child of the 70's. Who doesn't remember these commercials for Charlie?
And we have to end it with my all-time favorite fragrance commercial: Jaclyn Smith in her ad for Epris. It's my favorite of ALL TIME.
Enjoy the big game and the new commercials for this year's Super Bowl tonight, y'all! WHO DAT?!? GEAUX SAINTS!

Fashion Do-Over: The Bachelor 2010 Ladies Need New Evening Attire
I've skipped many seasons of ABC's The Bachelor so when I tuned in Monday night to see what I was missing, I was left with only one staggering question after all the desperation and mayhem from the premiere. It had nothing to do with the wimpy bachelor or even the woman who felt she should don a flight attendant costume. It was this:
Why did all of the women look like the Prom section of a major department store threw up on them? No, I mean, seriously...from the high hair to the shiny teeth to the flammable shiny gowns, it was like he was passing out corsages instead of single stem roses. I know they arrived in stretch limos but come ON.
Minus a couple of standouts that were PASSABLE (there was no dress in the lot where I would possibly co-sign on their style choice), may I make a plea that the long pageant gowns please go away? Yeah, see, that argument about looking demure and tasteful isn't going to hold water with me because, you know, you're on The Bachelor. If charm and privacy was what you were going after, you wouldn't be trying to snag a husband on national television. Just saying. But I digress. Let's kick it up a notch and show a little leg, here, shall we?Next time, may I make suggestions for the popular themes?
Red dresses are a fashion item no man can resist, it's true. Can we throw this smoking hot Laila Azhar One Shoulder Twist Dress (on sale for $190.50) into the mix, shall we? That should be like shooting fish in a barrel.
If it's a sequin you're craving, this sexy and shiny Vince Sequin Mesh Tank Dress ($375) should do the trick.
You're welcome, America.
Oh, one more thing, ladies. The makeup mirror has another setting called "Daylight." Use it next time. Television lighting is evidently brighter than you thought it would be.

Stylish Viewing: Watch Lady Gaga on Bravo's "Launch My Line"
I admit that I was a little slow to get on the Lady Gaga bandwagon but I believe I can now consider myself a fan, especially of the superstar's ingenious costumes and fashion sense. Well, for those of us who are fashion AND music obsessed, we can get our fix by tuning into Bravo's new fashion competition show, Launch My Line this Thursday, January 6th to watch Lady Gaga make her appearance. Honestly, I've been watching out of nothing but love for my boys Dean and Dan Caten, the geniuses behind one of my favorite labels, DSquared, but throwing Gaga in the mix as a challenge for the would-be designers is bound to make it A Very Special Episode, indeed.
So, my fashion and music lovers out there, set your DVRs for stunning to record (or just watch if you're home) Lady Gaga on Bravo's Launch My Line this coming Thursday, January 6th at 10e/9c pm. Let's all tune in to see who gets her fashion seal of approval and which pairing becomes the style equivalent of a bad romance.

Holiday Gift Guide: Presents for the Gadget-Obssesed
Ok, we're off and running for the holidays and we're focusing on people who are just kind of hard to buy for, especially if you know them well (people you don't know so well? that's why the good Lord let us invent gift cards as far as I'm concerned). This guide focuses on the gadget nut. Everyone knows one. You know, the person who camps out for the release of the newest phone, has the baddest computer on the block and scoffs at you if you don't understand how to operate FourSquare? What to get your favorite gadget geek? Read on...
We are ALL attached to our phones and while everyone is raving about the iPhone and the Droid, have you heard of Windows Phones? Oh yeah!Windows phones have tons of features when it comes to voice and Web (Facebook, FourSquare, Twitter, browser, voice, 3G, etc) and when it comes to the fabulous fashionista in your life, uber designers like Rock & Republic and Diane Von Furstenberg designed custom themes for these phones. I'm partial to the HTC Imagio (Verizon - $199 with 2-yr contract and $100 online discount), which features a 3.6 inch touch screen and 5 mega-pixel camera with auto-focus in addition to the fabulousness I listed previously. Seriously, check it out!
What about the information junkie in your life? The one attached to Wikipedia for every little question, like "Who breathes air?" Get your information overloader a WikiReader, a gadget from famed industrial designer Thomas Meyerhoffer, that brings all of the information from Wikipedia and all of its content to anyone, anywhere on the globe without needing an internet connection. 3 simple buttons, 3 million topics, and two standard AAA batteries (included) will power the device for about one year of normal usage. This is perfect for students or, you know, info geeks like me.
If you've got a camera nut on your gift list, you have to get them the genius camera that I use for FSB: the Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera ($179.95). Forget whatever handheld video camera you have: this little gadget takes up to 10 hours of HD 1080 quality video with brilliant sound as well as still photography. I recorded all of the YouTube videos from Fashion Week on this camera and it's pure genius.
If you have an audiophile in your midst, there are three last gadgets I have to tell you about. First of all, you've already heard me raving about my AudioChi W-5 Headphones ($109.95) and I will never be without them again in life. Since my iPod is about to die (it's old, people), it's time to go ahead and upgrade to an iPod Touch ($199), which will house my music and video library as well as pitch hit as a computer if I need to check email or surf the web. But as someone who likes to crank my music up to levels that make my neighbors slightly mental, the top of my own personal gift list this year is the Geneva M Sound System ($699), which has a iPod dock, a CD slot as well as FM radio and crisp, beautiful Geneva sound.
And if these gifts don't work, a gift certificate to Best Buy should get you a nod and the title of "righteous one" for at least another year. :)

Designer Event Alert: Olivia Palermo, Joe Zee and Tia Ciabani of Ports 1961 at Bloomingdale's

Here's another event alert for all you fashion fans. As you know, FSB loves Ports 1961 (the spring show was gorgeous, I must say) and we also love the MTV "reality" series, The City. Mix those two things together and it's game on. Well, Bloomingdale's must have been reading my mind because they're having a pre-spring preview with The City's Olivia Palermo, Elle's Creative Director Joe Zee (also on The City) and Ports 1961 designer Tia Ciabani!
Held on the 4th floor in the Designer Collections department at Bloomingdale's legendary flagship on 59th Street, this lovely event will be held from 6-8 pm on November 16th and promises to be a fabulous evening.
Mark your calendars, brush up on your MTV reality programming and come out to see a sneak peek at Ports 1961's amazing collection for the warmer months. Love!

Stylish Book Review: Fierce Style by Christian Siriano

Book cover courtesy of Hachette Book Group, Inc.
A few weeks ago in the midst of moving, a little package arrived at my new place with a book inside. It was Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self by pint-sized fashion and style dynamo Christian Siriano. You're familiar with Christian, I'm sure: winner of Project Runway, fashion darling, Payless accessories line and guest appearances on Ugly Betty. You'd think it was a book on being famous but no, although there are mentions of Siriano's success in the book. Actually, it's a cute, cheeky view of the world from Siriano's lens; a guide on how to look, feel and live your most fabulous life.
I know you're thinking he's in his twenties so what does he really know about life, and I offer that having read the book cover to cover (with a time lapse in between to grapple with the flu), there's something in there for both the young and the old(er). Siriano's philosophies on style, shopping, design and personal attitude/determination (which is really the most endearing section and a great read) are paired with heartfelt stories of his own disappointments and triumphs both personal and professional and it's really quite inspiring. It also comes with a glossary of terms because the book is peppered with his favorite euphemisms such as "ferocia coutura" and "tick tack toe" (you need to read the book to see what I'm talking about.) With inset quotes from Vanessa Williams, Becki Newton, Whoopi Goldberg and Siriano's Runway mentor Tim Gunn, it's a quick-but-fun read that will make you smile and also give you some a little bit of insight into the design dynamo's view on the world...and it's really fun!
A great gift for anyone just beginning to discover themselves and/or their own style, Fierce Style is a fun, fabulous read for the subway or for a great weekend wrapped on the couch with Project Runway re-runs. Recommended!

NYFW: Christian Siriano Spring 2010 Collection - Mercedes Benz Fashion Week
All photos by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Mercedes-Benz
Our fresh-faced reality star is all grown up! Christian Siriano showed his third collection since winning Project Runway and his take on a Mediterranean cruise was lush, sophisticated and complete with all the high drama for which the designer is becoming known. Three ball gowns sent down the runway garnered applause from a packed audience which included Mena Suvari and Tori Spelling, possibly a prediction of their red carpet appearance moving into awards season.
Siriano is a consummate showman, so his best pieces were the most elaborate. His work still needs a bit of maturity in more simple pieces but when he lets his creativity soar with draping and more complex work, his true talent shines through, as with pieces made from a "flipped, modified, repeated and saturated with Volcanic and Oceanic colors" printed fabric hailing from an aerial photograph of the Italian coast as described in the show's notes.
Hues of red, orange and blue saturated the runway and announced the bold spirit of the designer who created them. The packed audience will attest that Hollywood and the runway have spoken: Christian Siriano is here to stay.

FSB On the Scene: Ted Gibson Celebrates His New Gig on "What Not To Wear"

No doubt you've heard the news that TLC's What Not To Wear has a new hair guru and it's none other than legendary stylist Ted Gibson! Oh yes, ladies: not only will Clinton and Stacy be unfrumping (yes, I made that up) hapless folks across the country but their hair will now be in the capable hands of the mane man for Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Diane Von Furstenberg and countless other media mavens, socialites and fashionistas. Last night, Ted had a little soiree at his Fifth Avenue salon to celebrate his new part time gig and Fashion.Style.Beauty was on the scene. When I tell you that Ted is not only the consummate host but one of the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet, I'm not overstating matters.
When I asked Ted why he decided to take on the TLC gig, he said that it's all about bringing the experience of luxury to everyday people, that you shouldn't have to be wealthy or a celebrity to know how to look your absolute best. He's putting his money where his mouth is: his amazing line of hair products are now available at Target! I'm obsessed with the Ted Gibson Hairsheets ($24.95), a quick conditioning treatment you can simply wipe on, brush and go. Perfect for the gym bag, people.

So learn a little more about the genius that is Ted Gibson, then tune in tonight to watch What Not To Wear. Things just got a little more fabulous around here.

We've been following Bravo's The Fashion Show for the season and if you watched last week's episode, you KNOW this is the one to watch! Reco got kicked off and you were left to vote between James-Paul, Anna and Daniella. Well, there's a reunion show as well (of course) and one of the questions asked is if Johnny is going to admit he knocked off Maggie Gyllenhaal's Golden Globes gown. Here's a sneak peek:
Tune in tonight to see who wins! We'll give you all the hair tips and fashion advice from the runway afterwards!

Are You Ready? Behind the Scenes of The Finale of "The Fashion Show"
Are you watching the finale of Bravo's The Fashion Show tonight? If not, I give you permission to turn off the computer right this minute and turn to Bravo right now (not really but if you must)! I have tons of backstage photos for you from the taping after the show airs but thought I would share a few before we all hunker down to watch the drama, intrigue and FASHION! The photos above are me with TRESemme guru Jeanie Syfu who manages the team that did all the amazing hair looks for this season. The model she's working on is Patricia, who is the showstopper model for Daniella.
Oh yes, this is me with one of my all-time style idols, Isaac Mizrahi. He was so fabulous and so nice to take a photo with me. We loooove Isaac.
This amazing jacket is part of Daniella's final collection. It's based on chain mail. Chainmail details with cold shoulder cutouts and skinny pants? Could you DIE? I almost did. The photo below is of the outfit coming down the runway.
Turn it on right this minute. Who will win? Honey, I don't even know that! Follow me on Twitter (I'm @fashionstbeauty) as I join my fellow bloggerati in watching and enjoying all of the fabulousness that is the finale of The Fashion Show!

Separated at Birth: NYC Prep's Sebastian and Shaun Cassidy?

Want a moment of funny in your day? Ok, so we all know about my obsession with Bravo reality television so it should come as no surprise that I've become a fan of the Gossip Girl-type reality show, NYC Prep. I won't go into the plot lines, drama and intrigue that is overindulged, wealthy teenage Manhattan, but I have to ask the general public a question: am I the only person who has noticed the similarities between the show's teen lothario, Sebastian Oppenheimer and 70's teen idol Shaun Cassidy? As in, DOWN TO THE HAIRCUT? Please see the photos above and let me know your thoughts. I can't be the only one!

Bravo's The Fashion Show Episode 10: Beauty and the Beast that is Plagiarism
Did you catch last Thursday's episode of Bravo's The Fashion Show. If you haven't and you love fashion, I have to demand that you go to the website right this second and watch this episode. I don't care if you've missed every episode up to now, this was the one to watch, people. In an evening gown challenge, one of the designers, Johnny, brought out a gown as his own and Isaac Mizrahi and Harper's Bazaar's Editor-In-Chief Glenda Bailey judged it to be a knockoff of Maggie Gyllenhaal's Lanvin from the 2009 Golden Globes. In the immortal words of Whitney Houston, "Aw, Hell to the Naw!" (That's "Oh, HELL NO" for those who don't speak Whitney.) He was dismissed and Daniella won but can you imagine the drama of having a dress you designed pronounced a knock-off in front of Isaac Mizrahi, IMG's Fern Mallis AND Harper's Bazaar's EIC? I clutched my pearls (not really) just thinking about it!
But I digress. The winning design was Danielle's gorgeous confection based on a stormy sky. If you want to a gown based on the design (which is really quite lovely), head to Bravotv.com and shop til you drop. As always, I was loving Jeanie Syfu's hairstyles and the fabulous TRESemme artist strikes again with an easy-to-repeat, summer-friendly style. According to Jeanie, this is how you get the look for your next big night out:
"Starting with damp hair, apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse on the top section, and blow dry with a round brush. Pin curl, and set. Distribute TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Sculpting Spray Gel to remaining hair, and blow dry. Pull hair back into a sleek bun, using a flat brush for control. Take pin curl clips out on top, and tease the base for lift. Brush lightly for a smooth surface, and hold with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray. Work the rest of the length into the bun, and pin."
Easy, right? More behind-the-scenes hair, makeup and looks from the finale to come.

FSB Behind the Scenes: Bravo's The Fashion Show
Ok, so I admit that as much as I love Bravo's The Fashion Show, I have been completely remiss in keeping up with posts on it but you HAVE been watching, haven't you? Between the reality show drama and the real-live advice you can take away from this show, it's must-see programming, people. Tune in right this minute if you haven't already. The look at left is the winning look from the challenge on Episode 7, where the designers had to design an outfit inspired by Isaac Mizrahi's mood board in less than eight hours. While I adore the outfit (you can buy a look inspired by the winning design here), I was mad for the hair. TRESemme's Jeanie Syfu, the lead stylist on the show, tells how to get this look:
• Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Instant Heat Tamer Spray on dry hair concentrating on the mid-shaft to ends.
• Starting at the nape, use a 1/4" curling iron to create small ringlets from roots to ends.
• Once entire head is curled, create a center part and finger through to loosen and fluff the curls.
• Rub TRESemmé Anti-Frizz Secret Smoothing Crème on hands, and twirl small sections of hair around the finger to create definition.
I gave it a shot and it totally works. See photo of me with my new rockin' do below out to dinner at NYC's Cafeteria with my friend Suzette:
I was invited backstage to watch the taping of the finale episode featuring the finalists' collection at the legendary Cipriani Wall Street last week. The photo below is a sneak preview. I can't show you most of the backstage photos until after the episode airs but I promise they're totally worth it!
So, tune in tonight and check out all the drama, intrigue and real-life style advice. Do not miss another episode, people. After all, life is a fashion show!
