Fashion News: Iman to Be Honored With CFDA Award Tonight!

It's truly a good week when it starts out with news this amazing. My favorite model of all time and one of my greatest Style Icons, Iman, will be honored with a Fashion Icon award at the CFDA Awards tonight at Lincoln Center!

Previous winners of the award have included Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker, but this is an amazing honor for black models from every era, a group that has seen much struggle within the fashion industry. The recognition of one of the greatest models and businesswomen of our time is a huge step in the right direction and well-deserved per her impressive body of work. She's a Fashion Icon and a role model that you can have it all, work very hard and still be a class act.

Fashionable Awards Show: The Best (And One Slightly Questionable Choice) of Oscar Fashion

I just arrived home from a VERY LONG Academy Awards celebration (not the party, the telecast). 3:37:05, people. So while the winners and attendees hit the Vanity Fair party and Elton John's legendary soiree, I'm here to give you my top picks for Oscar fashion.

Before we get to the fabulousness of the telecast, I have a bone to pick with E! Television and their red carpet coverage. Ryan Secrest, you have worked the red carpet countless times and you KNOW that we are all watching the red carpet arrivals for one thing and one thing only: the fashion. Your "crack journalism" skills are unnecessary in this situation. People do not donate $100,000 gowns that took fifteen people three weeks to make so you can brush them off. ASK ABOUT THE DRESS, SEACREST. Oh, and asking the camera to pan back for a "wide shot" when talking to Gabourey Sidibe was unnecessary and uncalled for. Shame on you.

OK, now back to the fashion! Let's just go with the best of the best, shall we?

Best Red Dress
This one was really hard because there were so many but we'll have to give it up for Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan. The scarlet hue looked amazing on her and the draping was impeccable.

Best Metallic Dresses
This has to be a tie. I've got to go with a tie between Sandra Bullock in Marchesa and Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent. Two distinctively different silhouettes and fabrications but both glowing and gorgeous.

Best Throwback to Old Hollywood Glamour
Hands down, I'm giving this one to Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta. Cameron owned this Veronica Lake-inspired look down to the sweeping curl of her hair and the uber-glamorous red lip. She was a confection of style and I ate it up.

Best Risk-Taker
There are always those who are willing to throw caution to the wind and take a risk. Love it or hate it but you'll be talking about this dress over the watercooler come this Monday morning. I'm giving it up to Sarah Jessica Parker channeling a 60's Anne Bancroft in Chanel.

Best Sophisticated Style
You had to hand it to Meryl Streep, people. Classic, age-appropriate and sexy, she looked drop dead diva in Project Runway-alum Chris March.

Best Evolving Style
This dress drew a lot of back and forth at the Oscar party I attended but I'm going to have to go here and say that I really thought Elizabeth Banks looked gorgeous in Versace.

Questionable Style Choice
Again, I don't really do negative reviews but I'm going to have to say that I didn't really understand the rosette placement on Charlize Theron's Dior gown. I mean, she's on camera and we're staring at the rosettes on her breasts? Not so great.

Red Carpet Recap: Beauty at the 2009 Primetime Emmys

Even though some of the dresses were kind of ho-hum, the beauty looks on the red carpet were really lovely (although I think we all agree that the smoky eye was a tad overdone). Here are the best of the bunch from last night's telecast:

Kristin Chenowith: Hands down, I think she was my favorite. Sleek ponytail, great lashes with what appeared to be a bronzed smoky eye, gorgeous pinky-peach gloss and probably the best skin in the whole place. She positively glowed on stage when she won. Someone should kiss her glam squad because they made her look like a goddess.

Debra Messing: The sleek side ponytail with the swept-over bang brought a take on old Hollywood glamour but the makeup sealed the deal: lashes for days with a bronzed sculpted cheek and pink gloss. Loved it.

Drew Barrymore: This subtle look focused more on the lips than the eyes and it was a refreshing change. Blush pinks and a contoured cheek with great lashes worked beautifully with a pop of juicy lip-bitten red on the mouth. A textured updo completed her take on a classic Hollywood look.

Kate Walsh: Here's why I loved her look. One, the dramatic eye looks amazing with her eye and hair color. Two, the lip gloss color is to die for and I must have it. Third, her hair looks amazing and she announced that Suave had done her hair. Cost effective and glamorous? Count me in!

Ginnifer Goodwin: The actress went for a gorgeous gamine look with a new pixie style paired with gorgeous watercolor-inspired eye and a pink glossy lip. I'm sure somewhere Audrey Hepburn was proud.

Red Carpet Recap: 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards

I, like most of you, curled up with a beverage and some snacks to watch the 2009 Primetime Emmys red carpet and I have to admit...I was completely underwhelmed for the most part. Have we frightened the Hollywood stars out of taking risks on the red carpet? While we ponder that, let's look at the best-dressed and some trends spotted from yesterday's festivities:

Best Dressed
I might take some flack for this, but I'm giving it to the one person I thought really went for full-on glamour and gave us a little drama on the carpet last night. For my money, Gossip Girl's Blake Lively in Versace with Lorraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin shoes just shut it down.

Rhapsody in Blue: I loved the different hues of blue last night that were beautifully executed. Top of the list was Christina Applegate in navy silk charmeuse Basil Soda paired with Coomi white gold with black diamonds rings and Christian Louboutin shoes. An honorable mention in this hue goes to Julia Louis-Dreyfuss in Vera Wang.

Gorgeous in Gold: There was quite a bit of gold on the red carpet last night but I really loved Sandra Oh's take on the metallic hue in her embroidered strapless Marchesa dress with belt and a Marchesa crocodile handbag with hand-beveled quartz crystal clasp.

Beautiful in Bordeaux: Gorgeous deep shades of red were shown on the carpet this year and no one looked more beautiful than Mila Kunis in her Monique Lhuillier ombre v-neck tea-length dress.

Worst Dressed: I have to ask Shar Jackson what she was thinking with her dress but it pales in comparison to the absolute horror that was Phoebe Price's dress. Phoebe, a parachute covered in rhinestones is not a dress, it's an experiment in terror.
