Anyone who knows me knows that I have a really close relationship with my mom. My best friend, my mentor, lifelong grammar coach, posture corrector and all-around cheerleader, she's the closest person to me in life. This is why Mother's Day is kind of a special holiday around our house.
Now, whether or not you have the same relationship with your Mom, there are millions of options for the special woman in your life. Problem is, you're running out of time, so I would suggest the following items:
Moms who love makeup will love this Sephora Glamorous 360 Deluxe Palette (a $130 value for only $36), which is like having a makeup artist in the house. This all-in-one makeup kit contains 20 eyeshadow shades, 5 blush shades, 24 lip gloss shades, 2 double-ended applicators, 2 lip gloss brushes, powder and blush brushes, and a built-in mirror, all housed in a sleek compact case.
I don't know a woman alive who wouldn't want a trip to the spa. Many spas and nail salons in town offer gift certificates. I'm also a huge fan of the Blisscertificate: she can shop online if a Bliss Spa isn't nearby, she can book spa treatments online if there is one nearby, and you can select to have the certificate emailed to her directly
I tend to avoid the robe and slippers route but if you do go that route, make it good, people. This
Nautica Shawl Neckline Short-Sleeve Robe ($45) is incredibly luxurious and it's perfect for spring and summer due to the short sleeves and above-the-knee length.
If you want to avoid asking for sizes, a good handbag or a wallet is always a great option. This Hayden Harnett Clutch Wallet in Grape Shine ($170) will be an exquisite addition to Mom's wardrobe.
Now we get to the big items: jewelry. Depending on how bad you were as a kid (wrecked your parent's car, tried to set the house on fire) or an adult (multiple DUIs, you don't call as much as you should), the jewelry should say something about your level of penance. I'm a big believer in getting your mom the best jewelry you can afford, so here are three recommendations based on your level of financial solvency:
ATM: Monica Vinader stacking semi-precious rings ($340) - Beautiful, amazing and in no way cheap, these rings will make Mom smile.
Credit Card: David Yurman Diamond, Prasiolite & Sterling Silver Bracelet ($1550) - This classic piece from the legendary jewelry designer is bound to make her forget that all those times you didn't come home on time with the car.
Offshore Bank Account: Martin Katz Earrings ($15,900) - Because, let's face it, nothing says "I love you" like earrings that require a bank transfer and a security guard. Martin Katz is a red carpet and celebrity favorite and this are earrings that would cause ANY mother to swoon. Better make sure she's sitting down if you arrive with these stunners.
Mother's Day is Sunday, people. Commence shopping and make sure Mom knows how much you love her.
